Imperator Angelfish, Sub-Adult

The Imperator Angelfish, Sub-Adult (Pomacanthus imperator) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking transitional coloration, bold patterns, and regal appearance. Males typically display vibrant horizontal yellow and blue striping with a dark eye mask, while females/juveniles retain more of the circular blue-and-white juvenile pattern until they fully mature.

They reach about 15 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 220 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, along with plenty of open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, sponges, high-quality angelfish pellets, and other meaty foods, and with proper care this fish makes a standout centerpiece addition to a large marine aquarium.
