Hybrid Crocea x Squamosa Clam

The Hybrid Crocea x Squamosa Clam (Tridacna crocea x squamosa) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant coloration, intricate mantle patterns, and the unique blend of traits inherited from both parent species.

Males typically display slightly larger mantles with more pronounced coloration, while females/juveniles tend to have subtler patterns and may exhibit faster shell growth in early stages. They reach about 6 to 10 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50 gallons.

Provide a stable sandbed or live rock surface for attachment, moderate to high lighting (as they rely heavily on photosynthesis via symbiotic zooxanthellae), and strong but stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is recommended if housed with fish prone to disturbing invertebrates.

Diet should consist of dissolved nutrients and phytoplankton for juveniles, although adults rely mainly on photosynthesis. With proper lighting and water quality, this clam makes a standout addition to reef aquariums, offering both biological diversity and visual appeal.
