Hutomo's Anthias

The Hutomo's Anthias (Pseudanthias hutomoi) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its brilliant reddish-pink to orange coloration, slender body, and graceful swimming behavior. Males typically display more vivid coloration with brighter hues and longer, more elaborate fin extensions, while females/juveniles are smaller, with softer pink to orange tones and less ornate fins. They reach about 4–5 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70–90 gallons, with larger tanks recommended for groups or harems.

Provide ample live rock with caves and hiding spots, alongside open swimming space to replicate their natural reef environment. Stable water parameters are critical (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is a must, as anthias are known jumpers.

Their diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality micro pellets, offered in multiple small feedings throughout the day to match their active metabolism. With proper care, the Hutomo's Anthias is a stunning, active, and reef-compatible addition to the marine aquarium, especially when kept in harems with one male and several females.
