Hutchi Anthias

The Hutchi Anthias (Pseudanthias hutchi) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant orange-red coloration, slender body, and active schooling behavior. Males typically display brighter and deeper orange-red hues, elongated dorsal and caudal fins, and more striking overall appearance, while females/juveniles are smaller, lighter in color (orange to pinkish), and less ornate. They reach about 4–5 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70–90 gallons, with larger tanks preferred for groups or harems.

Provide ample live rock with caves and crevices, open swimming space, and hiding spots to mimic their natural reef environment. Stable water parameters are important (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is recommended, as anthias are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality micro pellets, offered in multiple small feedings throughout the day to match their active metabolism. With proper care, the Hutchi Anthias is a colorful, lively, and reef-compatible species that adds movement and vibrancy to the aquarium.
