Humu Picasso Triggerfish

Humu Picasso Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus aculeatus), which is an aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration with bold geometric patterns, unique “picasso-like” markings, and compact, deep-bodied shape.

Males typically display more vivid colors and pronounced markings, while females and juveniles are slightly duller with subtler patterns. They reach about 12 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons. Provide a habitat with sandbed, plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding, scattered caves, and open swimming space, maintain stable water parameters (salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid as they are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and some algae. With proper care, the Humu Picasso Triggerfish makes a striking and dynamic centerpiece in a marine aquarium.
