Honey Head Damselfish

Honey Head Damselfish (Dischistodus prosopotaenia) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vivid yellow “honey-colored” head, blue-spotted body, and distinctive dark blotch near the dorsal fin.

Males typically grow slightly larger, display brighter coloration, and may become territorial when breeding, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller, less intense in color, and more tolerant of tankmates.They reach about 5–6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons to provide enough space and reduce territorial aggression.

Provide ample live rock for hiding and territories, open swimming space, and a sandy substrate, with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a mix of meaty foods (mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods), high-quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods to ensure balanced nutrition.

With proper care, this fish makes a bold and unique addition to the aquarium, best suited for semi-aggressive community setups or fish-only systems.
