Honey Damselfish

Honey Damselfish (Chromis sp.) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant golden-yellow to honey-colored body, hardiness, small size, and active schooling behavior.

Males typically display brighter coloration and may become more territorial during spawning, while females/juveniles tend to have slightly duller shades and are less territorial.

They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger if keeping groups). Provide ample live rock with hiding spots as well as open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many damselfish are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of meaty foods (mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods) along with high-quality marine pellets, flakes, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy, colorful, and active addition to reef aquariums.
