Hi Fin Coradion Butterflyfish (Coradion altivelis) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its distinctive high dorsal fin, elegant black and white vertical stripes on a pale body, and subtle yellow accents on the fins. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, including coral-rich lagoons and reef slopes, this butterflyfish is known for its graceful swimming and striking fin morphology.

Males typically grow slightly larger with more prominent fin extensions during breeding, while females/juveniles remain smaller with shorter dorsal fins and slightly muted coloration. They reach about 5–6 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 100 gallons, providing ample swimming space and a stable environment.

Provide live rock with crevices for hiding, open swimming areas, and a secure lid, since butterflyfish can jump if startled. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4) for optimal health and longevity.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets, supplemented occasionally with algae-based foods. With proper care, the Hi Fin Coradion Butterflyfish makes a graceful and eye-catching centerpiece in a marine aquarium.
