Hasselt's Goby

Hasselt's Goby (Callogobius hasselti) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its cryptic coloration with mottled patterns that blend seamlessly into sandy and rocky substrates, small size, and unique habit of burrowing and hiding within crevices. Males typically display slightly more intense coloration and may have subtle markings during breeding periods, while females and juveniles tend to have paler, less distinct patterns. They reach about 2 to 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed with plenty of live rock and hiding spots such as caves and crevices, along with moderate open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since gobies can be jumpers. Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely crushed pellets or flakes. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, offering fascinating behavior and excellent camouflage within reef environments.
