Halfmoon Triggerfish

The Halfmoon Triggerfish (Sufflamen chrysopterum) is an aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its striking coloration, crescent-shaped body, sharp teeth, and active, bold behavior.

Males typically display more vibrant colors with a pronounced crescent marking and larger size, while females and juveniles are slightly smaller and less intensely colored. They reach about 12 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons. Provide a setup with a sandbed, plenty of live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming space, maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temperature ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and use a secure lid since this species is prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, frozen or prepared meaty foods, and occasional algae-based items, and with proper care, this fish makes a striking and dynamic addition to the aquarium.
