Green Silk Dartfish

The Green Silk Dartfish (Ptereleotris microlepis) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its delicate silk-like green coloration, slender body, and graceful darting swimming style. Males typically exhibit a slightly more vibrant green hue with elongated dorsal fins, while females and juveniles tend to have a paler coloration and shorter fins. They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a sandbed, plenty of live rock for hiding spots, and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many dartfish are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or flakes. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, adding peaceful beauty and subtle movement to a reef setup.
