Green Rock Flower Anemone

The Green Rock Flower Anemone (Epicystis crucifer) is an invertebrate species that is considered peaceful and generally reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant coloration, striking petal-like tentacle patterns, compact size, and hardy nature. Unlike many other marine animals, Green Rock Flower Anemones do not display noticeable sexual dimorphism—males and females look alike, and juveniles resemble smaller versions of the adults.

They typically reach about 3–6 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons to provide stability and enough space for secure placement. An ideal setup includes a sandbed and live rock with crevices for the anemone to attach its foot, moderate to strong water flow, and reef lighting to support their symbiotic zooxanthellae. Water parameters should remain stable, with salinity between 1.020–1.025, temperature of 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4.

While they primarily rely on photosynthesis, they also benefit from a diet consisting of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or other meaty frozen foods, offered once or twice a week. With proper care, the Green Rock Flower Anemone becomes a colorful, low-maintenance, and captivating centerpiece in the aquarium, making it a standout addition for reef keepers.
