The Graytail Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus poliourus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking gray tail, deep body coloration, and graceful presence in aquariums. Males typically show slightly more intense coloration and can grow larger, while females/juveniles display more subdued patterns with a softer gray tone.
They reach about 7–8 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding, along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, high-quality marine pellets, spirulina, sponge-based angelfish preparations, and marine algae. With proper care, this fish makes a rare and standout addition to a saltwater aquarium.
