The Gray Angelfish, Juvenile (Pomacanthus arcuatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black body marked with bold yellow stripes in the juvenile stage, later transforming into a stately gray with age, along with its large size and graceful swimming. Males typically grow larger and develop slightly more elongated dorsal and anal fins, while females/juveniles retain the dramatic banded coloration until maturity.
They reach about 20 inches as adults and should be housed in aquariums of at least 220 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing, hiding spots, and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, marine algae, spirulina, high-quality angelfish pellets, and sponge-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout showpiece in large marine aquariums.
