All fish are checked by marine vets, given a formalin bath, and held for 14 days in copper-treated systems. We feed Selcon-soaked food with Kanaplex and Metroplex during quarantine. Unless marked, all livestock comes with our 15-Day Guarantee. You will receive a video of your fish eating before shipment. For size preference please add a note on your order and we will match your fish to your requested size. If you just want the fish without our QT process, Please email us directly with your order number. Please note this does waive the 15 day guarantee.

The Grained Sea Star (Ophidiaster granifer) is a peaceful species of invertebrate that is considered reef-safe, admired for its intricate grainy surface texture, mottled coloration, and elongated arms that make it stand out among reef invertebrates. Males typically exhibit a slightly slimmer body with more defined arm structure, while females and juveniles tend to have a somewhat rounder central disc and less pronounced texture. They reach about 6–8 inches in diameter at adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons to ensure proper roaming space and stable conditions. A habitat with ample live rock, sandbed, and crevices for grazing and hiding is essential for their well-being.
Stable water parameters are critical—salinity between 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4—as sea stars are highly sensitive to sudden shifts. A secure environment with gentle water flow helps mimic their natural reef habitat. Their diet should consist mainly of film algae, detritus, and biofilm found on rocks, though supplemental feedings of mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or specialized invertebrate food may be provided if natural food sources are insufficient. With proper care, the Grained Sea Star makes a fascinating and unique addition to reef aquariums, valued for both its beauty and ecological role as a natural grazer.

On request, we also send photos/videos after arrival at IA. Some species are import-to-order (3-10 business days). Many common species are already cleared or near the end of QT.
Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
