Golden Sailfin Blenny

The Golden Sailfin Blenny (Atrosalarias fuscus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking golden to brown coloration, sail-like dorsal fin, algae-grazing behavior, and unique personality.

Males typically grow slightly larger, display more intense coloration, and may show territorial behavior during breeding, while females/juveniles are smaller with subtler tones and less pronounced fins.

They reach about 5–6 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock with algae growth, caves for hiding, and secure structures for perching, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a tight-fitting lid since they may jump.

Diet should consist of primarily algae (film algae, hair algae, marine macroalgae), supplemented with spirulina-based pellets, mysis shrimp, and other prepared herbivore foods. With proper care, this hardy and active fish makes a standout addition to a reef aquarium.
