Golden Heart Triggerfish

Golden Heart Triggerfish (Balistes punctatus), which is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant golden-yellow coloration, intricate blue patterns on the face, large size, and unique heart-shaped markings.

Males typically display more intense coloration with pronounced body markings and a robust, elongated profile, while females and juveniles are slightly smaller with muted colors and less pronounced patterns. They reach about 12–16 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Provide a sandbed, plenty of live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many triggerfish species are prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and occasional algae. With proper care, this fish makes a striking and standout addition to a marine aquarium.
