Golden Gregory Damselfish

Golden Gregory Damselfish (Plectroglyphidodon aureus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its brilliant golden-yellow coloration, hardy nature, and active swimming behavior.

Males typically become more territorial and vibrant in coloration, especially during spawning, while females and juveniles are generally smaller and slightly less vivid. They reach about 5 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons to provide ample space and minimize aggression.

Provide plenty of live rock for hiding spots and territorial boundaries, along with some open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid since they can be prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods to ensure balanced nutrition. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy and eye-catching addition to marine aquariums, though it may not be the best choice for peaceful community tanks due to its territorial tendencies.
