Golden /Banana Goldentail Eel

The Golden/Banana Goldentail Eel (Gymnothorax miliaris) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vivid golden to yellow coloration, spotted patterns, slender body, and striking appearance.

Males typically display slightly bolder coloration and more pronounced markings, while females and juveniles are often smaller with lighter or less intense patterns. They reach about 24–30 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons.

Provide a sandy substrate, abundant live rock with caves and hiding spots, and some open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential, as moray eels are skilled escape artists.

 Their diet should consist of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, silversides, krill, and other marine flesh, offered several times a week. With proper care, this eel makes a standout, visually striking, and hardy addition to large marine aquariums.
