Gold Spotted Rabbitfish (Siganus punctatus) is a peaceful species that is completely reef-safe, making it an excellent choice for mixed reef systems as it poses no threat to corals or invertebrates while focusing primarily on algae grazing. This beautiful rabbitfish displays a silver-white to pale blue base coloration adorned with numerous bright golden-yellow spots scattered across the body and fins, creating a stunning speckled pattern complemented by the characteristic rabbit-like face and constantly working mouth used for tireless algae consumption. The brilliant gold spotting against the silvery body and diligent grazing behavior make it both a visually striking addition and highly functional reef maintenance team member. It can reach about 10-12 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 125 gallons or more due to their active swimming and foraging nature, with abundant live rock for natural algae growth, excellent water quality, and careful handling around their venomous dorsal spines, though they're generally very peaceful and often become quite personable with their owners. Its diet should focus heavily on marine algae—nori sheets, spirulina, dried seaweed, quality herbivore pellets—with occasional meaty supplements like mysis shrimp, as this primarily herbivorous species requires constant access to plant matter for proper health and will effectively control nuisance algae while maintaining their spectacular gold-spotted appearance.
