Gold Saddle Goatfish

Gold Saddle Goatfish (Parupeneus cyclostomus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, as it may consume small ornamental shrimp and crabs but poses no threat to corals or larger invertebrates. This stunning goatfish displays a pearlescent white to pale yellow body adorned with a distinctive bright yellow "saddle" marking across the back, complemented by vibrant blue and yellow striping on the head and the characteristic twin barbels used for actively foraging through sand and crevices. The striking saddle pattern and constantly busy hunting behavior make it both a visual showpiece and endless entertainment. It can reach about 14-16 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 180 gallons or more due to their substantial size and highly active swimming nature, with a deep sand bed for natural foraging, excellent water quality, strong filtration, and ample open swimming space, though they can be territorial toward other goatfish or similarly shaped species. Its diet should include a mix of substantial meaty foods—large mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, krill, marine pellets—supplemented with occasional live foods like feeder shrimp or worms, as this voracious carnivorous species requires multiple generous feedings daily to support their large size and constant activity level.
