Gold Nugget Wrasse

Gold Nugget Wrasse (Xenojulis margaritaceus) is a unique and peaceful wrasse rarely seen in the trade, admired for its golden pearl-like spotting and elegant swimming style. Its slender body is light to golden with rows of iridescent white “nugget” spots along the flanks, complemented by darker edging on the fins and subtle striping on the face. This species grows to about 4 inches in adult size and does best in aquariums of at least 50 gallons, with a sandy substrate for resting, lots of live rock for cover, and stable reef water conditions (salinity ~1.020–1.025; temperature ~72–78°F; pH ~8.1–8.4). Known for its peaceful temperament, it is an excellent reef-safe addition that won’t harm corals or inverts, but may be shy around aggressive tankmates. A secure lid is required, as with most wrasses, since they are natural jumpers. Diet should include small meaty foods like mysis, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood, offered in multiple feedings to encourage natural foraging.
