Gold Coral Banded Shrimp

The Gold Coral Banded Shrimp (Stenopus zanzibaricus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its brilliant golden coloration, bold banded pattern, and unique long white antennae. Males typically are smaller, with more slender claws, while females/juveniles tend to be slightly larger-bodied and may develop fuller abdomens. They reach about 2–3 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with crevices and hiding spots, as these shrimp prefer to shelter and establish a territory. Stable water parameters are important (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and while they don’t typically jump like fish, a secure lid is still recommended.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped meaty foods, and occasionally pellets or flakes. With proper care, this striking invertebrate makes a standout ornamental cleaner shrimp in the aquarium, often adding both color and activity while occasionally engaging in cleaning behaviors with fish tankmates.
