Gold Belly Damselfish

The Gold Belly Damselfish (Pomacentrus auriventris) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking two-tone coloration (electric blue upper body and golden-yellow belly and tail), hardiness, and active swimming behavior.

Males typically exhibit brighter, more vivid coloration during breeding displays and may become territorial, while females/juveniles show slightly duller hues and are less territorial but still active.

They reach about 3 inches (7–8 cm) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons to reduce aggression and provide adequate swimming room. Provide ample live rock for hiding spots and territory, along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, high-quality marine pellets, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a colorful, hardy, and active addition to reef aquariums.
