Giant Moray Eel

Giant Moray Eel (Gymnothorax javanicus) — it is an aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its impressive size, striking mottled brown coloration, and powerful predatory presence.

Males typically grow slightly larger and bulkier with broader heads, while females/juveniles tend to stay slimmer with less pronounced jawlines.They reach about 118 inches (up to 10 feet in the wild, but usually smaller in captivity ~72–80 inches) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 300 gallons or more to accommodate their size and activity.

Provide ample live rock with caves, tunnels, and hiding spots, along with a soft sandbed and secure, escape-proof lid, since morays are known to squeeze out of tanks. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4.Diet should consist of meaty foods such as fresh or frozen shrimp, squid, fish, and other seafood (avoid feeding live feeder fish due to risk of parasites).

With proper care, this eel makes a standout centerpiece predator for a large marine aquarium, though it is best suited for experienced aquarists.
