Galaxy Hogfish, Juvenile (Bodianus busellatus)
The Galaxy Hogfish is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking galaxy-like coloration, unique spotted patterns, bold personality, and rarity in the aquarium trade.
Males typically develop brighter coloration with more defined body patterns and may grow larger, displaying dominance in territorial behavior.
Females/juveniles show subtler coloration, often with less intense patterning and a more subdued appearance until maturity.
They reach about 12–14 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons to allow for proper swimming space and territorial needs. Provide ample live rock with caves and hiding spots, as well as open swimming space. A secure lid is important since hogfish are known to be active and may jump. Maintain stable water parameters:
Salinity: 1.020–1.025
Temperature: 72–79°F
pH: 8.1–8.4
Diet should consist of a variety of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, krill, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. They may also pick at small invertebrates, so caution is needed in reef tanks. With proper care, this fish makes a rare and standout addition to large marine aquariums, especially for advanced hobbyists seeking a unique showpiece.

On request, we also send photos/videos after arrival at IA. Some species are import-to-order (3-10 business days). Many common species are already cleared or near the end of QT.
Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
