Fringed Filefish

The Fringed Filefish (Monacanthus ciliatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its olive-green to brown coloration, intricate body patterns, compact size, and distinctive fringed dorsal spine. Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and more pronounced dorsal fins, while females and juveniles are paler with subtler markings and more shy behavior. They reach about 4–6 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons.

An ideal tank should provide a sandbed, plenty of live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming space, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a secure lid to prevent jumping. Their diet should include mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae. With proper care, the Fringed Filefish makes a striking and unique addition to any marine aquarium.

Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
