The French Angelfish, Brazil Sub-Adult (Pomacanthus paru) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bold coloration, striking yellow-ringed scales, deep body shape, and graceful swimming patterns. Males typically display more vibrant coloration and slightly larger size, while females and juveniles often show distinct yellow vertical bands across their dark bodies, which gradually fade as they mature. This angelfish can reach about 15 inches in adulthood and should be housed in an aquarium of at least 180 gallons to provide adequate space for swimming and growth. A well-aquascaped environment with live rock, hiding spots, and ample open swimming space is essential to mimic their natural habitat and reduce stress. They thrive in stable water parameters with salinity between 1.020–1.025, temperature around 72–79°F, and pH levels of 8.1–8.4. Since angelfish are known to be active, a secure lid is highly recommended to prevent jumping. Their diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, marine algae, and sponge-based foods to maintain their health, color, and energy. With proper care and attention, the French Angelfish makes a standout centerpiece species in large marine aquariums.
