Foxface Rabbitfish (Siganus vulpinus) is a peaceful species that is completely reef-safe, making it an excellent choice for mixed reef systems as it poses no threat to corals or invertebrates while focusing primarily on algae grazing. This iconic rabbitfish displays a brilliant golden-yellow body with distinctive black and white facial markings that create the fox-like appearance it's named for, along with black banding through the fins and the characteristic rabbit-like mouth used for constant algae consumption. The vibrant yellow coloration and striking facial pattern combined with diligent grazing behavior make it both a stunning centerpiece and highly effective natural algae controller. It can reach about 9-10 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 125 gallons or more due to their active swimming and foraging nature, with plenty of live rock for algae growth and grazing opportunities, stable water parameters, and careful handling around their venomous dorsal spines, though they're generally very peaceful and often develop engaging personalities with their keepers. Its diet should focus heavily on marine algae—nori sheets, spirulina, dried seaweed, quality herbivore pellets—with occasional meaty supplements like mysis shrimp, as this primarily herbivorous species requires constant access to plant matter for optimal health and will provide excellent nuisance algae control while maintaining their brilliant yellow coloration and distinctive markings.
