Formosa Coris Wrasse (Coris formosa) is an absolute show-stopper for serious marine aquariums. Known also as the Queen Coris or Formosa Wrasse, it starts life as a fiery orange juvenile with bold white tiger-stripes and black fin edges, then transforms as it matures into a creature of deep blues, greenish hues, dark spots on its body, vibrant red fins, and a bold blue diagonal stripe across the face. It reaches around 20-24 inches in large tanks, but more commonly 8-12 inches in home setups. Best kept in tanks of at least 180 gallons, with a deep fine sandbed (4-6 inches) so it can bury itself at night or when startled, plenty of open swimming room, and robust hiding spots. Not reef-safe — it will prey on invertebrates like crabs, shrimp, and may rearrange substrate. Diet should be rich and carnivorous: meaty frozen foods (mysis, brine), shellfish, supplementing with high-quality pellet/flake food.
