The Forktail Blenny (Meiacanthus atrodorsalis) — a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking yellow to blue gradient coloration, forked tail, slender body shape, and unique fang-like teeth that deliver a mild venom (mainly for defense against predators).
Males typically display slightly bolder coloration and may become more territorial when competing for mates, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller, with more subdued colors and less pronounced behavior.
They reach about 4–5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock with hiding spots, some open swimming space, and a secure lid since they are known jumpers.
Maintain stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4.
Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, high-quality pellets, and occasional algae-based foods.
With proper care, this fish makes a standout, hardy, and attractive addition to reef aquariums.
