Flying Gurnard

Flying Gurnard (Dactylopterus volitans) – The Flying Gurnard is a fascinating and truly unique species, instantly recognized by its enormous, wing-like pectoral fins that it spreads out like a fan when startled or displaying. Covered in intricate patterns of blue, green, and iridescent spots, this bottom-dwelling fish is as captivating as it is unusual. Growing up to 15 inches, the Flying Gurnard requires a spacious aquarium with a soft sandy substrate and plenty of open swimming room. Peaceful in nature, they spend much of their time gliding along the sandbed, foraging for small crustaceans and invertebrates. When they open their fins, few fish can match the dramatic beauty of this rare showpiece.

International Aquatics Quarantine & Guarantee: All fish are checked by marine vets, given a formalin bath, and held for 14 days in copper-treated systems. Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3–10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
