Floral Blenny

The Floral Blenny (Petroscirtes mitratus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its elongated body, striking floral-like markings, and cryptic coloration that allows it to blend seamlessly into live rock.

Males typically display slightly larger heads and may show more vivid coloration or pattern definition, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller, with subtler markings and more cryptic tones.

They reach about 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots, some sandy substrate, and secure rockwork, along with a tight-fitting lid since this species is prone to jumping.

Stable water parameters are important (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4).

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, high-quality marine pellets, and some algae-based foods.

With proper care, this fish makes a unique and eye-catching addition to a marine aquarium.
