Flametail Blenny

Flametail Blenny (Enchelyurus flavipes). It is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking contrast of a deep black body with a vibrant orange-yellow tail, small size, active swimming behavior, and personable character.

Males typically display slightly brighter coloration with more defined tail markings and may show territorial posturing during breeding, while females/juveniles are generally smaller and less intensely colored, with a subtler appearance.

They reach about 3–4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock with hiding spots, some open swimming areas, and a secure lid since they are prone to jumping. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Diet should consist of a varied mix of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods.

With proper care, this fish makes a hardy, active, and colorful standout addition to a reef or community aquarium.
