Flagtail Shrimp Goby

The Flagtail Shrimp Goby (Amblyeleotris yanoi) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its distinctive flag-like tail pattern, subtle coloration, and fascinating symbiotic behavior with pistol shrimp. Males typically develop slightly larger bodies and may display more vivid markings, while females/juveniles tend to remain smaller with softer coloration. They reach about 4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, ample live rock for caves and shelter, and hiding spots, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since they are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality pellets. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, both for its beauty and for its fascinating behavior when paired with a pistol shrimp.
