The Flagfin Angelfish (Apolemichthys trimaculatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is generally reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration, bold patterns, and distinctive black flag-like markings on its fins. Males typically display more pronounced fin extensions and vibrant coloration, while females and juveniles have slightly subdued colors and less elaborate fins. They reach about 10–12 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Their environment should include a deep sandbed, plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding, and open swimming areas, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a secure lid, as this species is known to be a jumper. Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae to ensure optimal health. With proper care, the Flagfin Angelfish becomes a vibrant and eye-catching centerpiece in a marine aquarium.
