Fivestripe Wrasse (Thalassoma quinquevittatum) is a bold and active species recognized for its striking longitudinal striping and constant motion through the reef. Males display vivid green and blue coloration overlaid with five distinct dark stripes running the length of the body, while females and juveniles tend to be more subdued with softer shades and patterning. This species can reach about 6 inches in adult size and is best housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons, with open swimming space, rocky structures for cover, a sandy substrate, and a secure lid since wrasses are prone to jumping. They are semi-aggressive and thrive when kept with other large, assertive fish, making them a good choice for robust FOWLR or mixed predator setups rather than delicate reef tanks. Their diet should be protein-rich and varied, consisting of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, krill, chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods to maintain energy and coloration.
