Fire Coral Eel

Fire Coral Eel (Gymnothorax miliaris) which is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant golden-yellow coloration with intricate dark mottling, slender elongated body, and striking pattern that makes it stand out in reef aquariums.

Males typically exhibit slightly larger body size and more intense coloration, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller with less vivid markings.They reach about 28 inches in length as adults and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons. Provide ample live rock with caves and hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and secure aquascaping to accommodate their burrowing and hiding behavior.

Maintain stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A tight-fitting, secure lid is essential, as eels are notorious escape artists.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as silversides, shrimp, squid, and other marine-based preparations (avoiding freshwater feeders), offered 2–3 times per week.

With proper care, this eel makes a stunning and unique centerpiece addition to the aquarium, but it should be kept with caution alongside smaller fish and invertebrates, as they may be preyed upon.
