Fimbriated Moray Eel

Fimbriated Moray Eel (Gymnothorax fimbriatus). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its distinctive yellowish body with dark mottling, bold black spots around the head, elongated body, and impressive size.

Males typically grow large and robust with slightly broader heads, while females/juveniles are slenderer with subtler markings. They reach about 36 inches (90 cm) in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with caves and hiding spots, a soft sandbed, and stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A tightly secured lid is crucial, as morays are known escape artists.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as squid, shrimp, silversides, fish fillets, and other marine-based offerings (avoid freshwater feeders). With proper care, this eel makes a striking and unique addition to large aquariums, though it should not be trusted with very small fish or crustaceans.
