Fathead Sunburst Anthias

The Fathead Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus latus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant orange to peach body, distinct purple markings on the face, deep body shape, and shy yet striking presence. Males typically exhibit more intense coloration and slightly larger size, while females/juveniles have softer coloration and a slightly more slender appearance. They reach about 4 to 5 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons, with larger systems preferred for groups.

Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, low-to-moderate lighting, and gentle water flow, as this species prefers shaded or overhung areas rather than open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and use a secure lid, since they can jump when startled. Diet should consist of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or frozen preparations. With proper care and a calm environment, this fish makes a beautiful and unique addition to peaceful reef aquariums.
