False Yellow Spotted Watchman Goby

The False Yellow Spotted Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus sp.) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bright yellow body spotted with darker markings, robust size, and interesting symbiotic behavior with pistol shrimps. Males typically exhibit more intense coloration and slightly larger size, while females/juveniles are generally smaller with paler spots. They reach about 5–6 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed for burrowing, plenty of live rock for shelter and territory, hiding spots, and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since this species is prone to jumping. Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, pellets, and occasional algae-based foods, and with proper care this fish makes a vibrant and interactive addition to marine aquariums, especially when paired with pistol shrimps.
