Exquisite Firefish

The Exquisite Firefish (Nemateleotris exquisita) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking elongated body, vibrant gradient coloration from white to fiery orange-red on the fins, and elegant, sail-like dorsal fin. Males typically display slightly more intense coloration and elongated dorsal fins during breeding displays, while females/juveniles have softer colors and shorter fins. They reach about 3 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide a sandy substrate with ample live rock for hiding spots and crevices, as well as open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid, since many dartfish are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or flakes, and with proper care, this fish makes a captivating and peaceful addition to reef and marine community tanks.
