Emerald Coral Goby

The Emerald Coral Goby (Paragobiodon xanthosoma) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its brilliant emerald-green body, small size, and its unique symbiotic relationship with branching corals such as Acropora. This goby not only adds a splash of color but also perches gracefully among coral branches, where it often seeks shelter and protection.

Males typically grow slightly larger, may develop brighter green hues, and can show courtship behaviors such as displaying fins or defending a coral branch, while females and juveniles remain smaller, with subtler coloration and less pronounced territorial behavior.

They reach about 1.5–2 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons, though larger reef tanks with healthy branching corals provide the best environment. Provide plenty of live rock, coral branches for perching and hiding, and some open swimming areas. While generally not prone to jumping, a secure lid is still recommended.

Maintain stable water parameters: salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH between 8.1–8.4.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped meaty foods, and high-quality micro pellets or coral-friendly prepared foods. Regular small feedings are ideal to match their small size and active nature.

With proper care, the Emerald Coral Goby makes a standout addition to reef aquariums, admired for its vibrant coloration, symbiotic coral-dwelling behavior, and peaceful temperament.
