Dwarf Fuzzy Lionfish

Dwarf Fuzzy Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus) is an aggressive predatory species that is not reef-safe as it will consume any fish, shrimp, or crab small enough to fit in its mouth. This charismatic predator displays rich brown, tan, and cream banding across its compact body with elaborate, feathery pectoral fins and distinctive fuzzy-looking skin appendages that give it exceptional camouflage among coral rubble and algae. The ornate fin rays and cryptic coloration make it a master of disguise as it lies motionless waiting for prey. It can reach about 6-7 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 55 gallons or more, with plenty of caves, overhangs, and rocky hiding spots, gentle to moderate water flow, stable water parameters, and caution around the venomous spines which pack a potent sting despite the fish's diminutive size. Its diet should include a mix of live or frozen meaty foods—small fish, mysid shrimp, feeder shrimp, glass shrimp—as well as marine pellets once established, though many specimens are stubborn feeders that may require live foods and patience during acclimation.
