Double Bar Chromis

Double Bar Chromis (Chromis opercularis) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its silvery-blue body with distinctive twin bars near the gill plate, forked yellow tail, and active schooling behavior.

Males typically become slightly larger, more vivid in color during spawning, and may display territorial behavior when guarding eggs, while females/juveniles remain smaller with more subdued coloration.They reach about 3 to 3.5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger tanks recommended if kept in groups).

Provide ample live rock for shelter, open swimming space for schooling, and secure hiding spots, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many chromis are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of varied offerings such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, quality marine pellets, and occasional marine algae.

With proper care, this fish makes a standout, hardy, and active addition to a reef or community aquarium.
