The Dotted Dwarf Goby (Eviota punctulata) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its tiny size, delicate translucent body with scattered dark spots, and charming darting movements. Males typically exhibit slightly brighter coloration and more pronounced spotting during breeding, while females/juveniles are smaller with more subtle patterns. They reach about 1 inch and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons, ideally with a small species or nano reef setup.
Provide plenty of live rock with lots of crevices and hiding spots, a fine sandbed, and open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid as small gobies are prone to jumping. Diet should consist of tiny mysis shrimp, copepods, brine shrimp, and finely crushed pellets or flakes, and with proper care, this fish makes a delightful, active addition to nano reef or species-specific marine aquariums.
