Dotted Cardinalfish

The Dotted Cardinalfish (Fowleria isostigma) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its distinctive dotted pattern along its body, moderate size, and striking red-orange coloration. Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and may have more pronounced markings during breeding, while females and juveniles tend to have a softer, less intense coloration. They reach about 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 40 gallons.

Provide live rock with plenty of hiding spots and caves, as well as some open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020-1.025, temperature between 72-79°F, and pH from 8.1-8.4. A secure lid is important since many cardinalfish species can be prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or flakes. With proper care, the Dotted Cardinalfish makes an attractive and peaceful addition to reef aquariums.
