Domino Damselfish

Domino Damselfish (Dascyllus albisella) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking black body marked with one to three distinctive white spots (like “dominoes”), hardiness, and bold personality. Males typically become larger, more territorial, and display dominance behaviors, especially during breeding, while females/juveniles tend to stay smaller and show a slightly less aggressive disposition.

They reach about 5 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger tanks are recommended if keeping them in groups). Provide ample live rock with hiding spots and territories, as well as open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, marine pellets, flake foods, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy and visually striking addition to the aquarium, especially as a bold contrast species in reef or community setups (though caution is advised with more passive tankmates).
