Dispar Anthias
(Nemanthias dispar) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant coloration, active schooling behavior, moderate size, and compatibility with other peaceful reef fish. Males typically display brighter colors with hues of pink, orange, or red and may develop elongated dorsal and ventral fins, while females/juveniles have a softer pink or peach coloration with a more rounded fin profile and a streamlined appearance.

They reach about 3 to 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons, especially when kept in small harems (1 male to several females), which mimics their natural social structure.

Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, open mid-water swimming space, and subdued lighting or shaded areas, along with stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is essential as anthias are known jumpers.

Diet should consist of frequent feedings (2–3 times daily) of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, copepods, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes. With proper care and a peaceful environment, the Dispar Anthias adds beauty and dynamic movement to any reef aquarium.
