Decorated Glider Goby

The Decorated Glider Goby (Valenciennea decora) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration featuring bold stripes, elongated body, distinctive long pectoral fins used for "gliding" along the substrate, and active sand-sifting behavior. Males typically are slightly larger and may display more vivid coloration during breeding displays, while females/juveniles are smaller and less intensely colored. They reach about 6 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50 gallons.

Provide a deep sandbed (at least 3 inches) for burrowing and sand-sifting, live rock for shelter, and ample open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since this species is known to jump. Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality sinking pellets, and with proper care, this fish makes a unique and engaging addition to medium to large marine aquariums.
